Do you offer family discounts?

We offer a family discount of 25% for every full paying member. Discount is applied to the lesser membership.

Do I need extra equipment?

In time you will need sparring pads a mouth guard and a groin guard for males. We can supply a competition approved set for £80 and recommend a mouth guard/groin guard.

What do I wear to my first class?

Something comfortable that you can kick in. Avoid shorts and bring a drink. We train barefoot and unfortunately make no exceptions. Even martial arts shoes damage our mats.

Will I get hit and do I have to do Sparring?

Tae kwon Do is a semi contact sport that does involve sparring. This means you will strike other people and other people will strike you. However, we do not accept excessive contact and build you up very slowly to be comfortable while sparring. We never want any student to feel uncomfortable. Accidents can happen, that's the nature of sport but no one will try to hurt you.

Can I stay and watch my kids?

Yes, we have seating in an adjacent hall where you can sit and watch. We ask parents not to get involved in coaching and be respectful of the children trying to concentrate. Parents who are distracting or disruptive will be asked to leave.

Do I have to stay and watch my kids?

We insist parents of Gen X students stay. This is mainly to assist your child if they need to use the bathroom. Parents of cadets are welcome to drop them off and pick them up after class. Although we won't allow children to leave the hall without an adult, even to walk into the car park.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

At Lone Wolf we promote based on ability. If you are good enough to grade, we let you grade. It works both ways though, if you aren't ready, we won't put you forward. We will hold you to a high standard. For that reason, it's hard to put a time frame on getting a black belt. Some people can take 3/4 years, others 7/8 years.

What do you offer outside of classes?

We attend lots of external events as well as events we host ourselves. We attend competitions, seminars, awards evenings and gradings. We also run regular workshops and social events. We even take our juniors to the fire station once a year. We try to be as active as possible to give students as many opportunities as we can.

Why does your Saturday class close so often?

We are very active as a region and attend lots of events. This benefits our students on the whole. It means our instructors are training to a high level regularly and compete throughout the year. This in turn means our students get to learn from current competitors with up to date information. UKITF hold most of their events on a Saturday which means, on occasion, we have to close the class. We do encourage students to make up sessions at other classes wherever possible and, when this is not possible, we offer a discount on the month.
